April Listening List

Vancouver is still rainy and windy but I could see the flowers in the garden poking their heads up and it is the season of cherry blossom again. I can feel and smell that Spring is just around the corner and I am sure I am not the only one longing for a change. How is everyone doing? For whatever reason that takes you to my site, I sure hope you have some take-aways from my site, for example... some good music? Here are four music that I recommend for the month of April. Next month, in May, I will do 5 songs, and 6 songs for June.... etc etc. Well, I hope you like my taste in music! #1: The Four Seasons - Spring (arr. by Max Richter)

This brilliantly recomposed and arranged music by Max Richter fits right into my description that "the flowers in the garden are just poking their heads up!" You can feel that excitement that something good is going to happen and it is happening. It usually gives me so much energy to start my days with this music, I hope it does the same to your days. #2: Frühlingsstimen (Voices of Spring ) by J. Strauss

Oh I am a big opera fan! I miss my days of going to the MET opera on a free weekend. Nothing could express feelings better than human voice and singing. As I am listening to this music by Johann Strauss, I can't help but recelebrate the year 2023 although it is hard to admit that we are soon moving towards the middle of the year already. Anyway, this music is just lovely. Look at the lyrics; The lark rises into the blue, the mellow wind mildly blowing; his lovely mild breath revives and kisses the field, the meadow. Spring in all its splendor rises, ah, all hardship is over, sorrow becomes milder, good expectations, the belief in happiness returns; sunshine, you warm us, ah, all is laughing, oh,oh awakes! Ah, can you be sorrowful when the lyrics are so hopeful and the singer has such a beautiful voice? #3: Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky Korsakov (trumpet version!)

Okay, I was trying to find a piano version of this and I could not find one that I liked to share. Yuja Wang's bees are a bit scary and aggressive, there were some other versions that sounded like drowsy bees. I personally like Kissin's the best but I am not allowed to link it ... so here is another version I think that represents those tiny busy bees the best. Watch out for those bees in your garden, they are coming very soon! (and mosquitoes... which are not so fun) #4: Tchaikovsky's Four Seasons (May: White Nights)

Spring nights are just as beautiful as day time. We live by the water and these days when it gets quiet at night, it does sound a bit like this music. If you like my recommendation, drop me a message and let me know. I am also curious to get some comments about what YOU like too. Enjoy the season, enjoy the music.
